I’m Sameer Narang. I run the Data + AI engineering group at Zscaler, which acquired Symmetry Systems, the data-security startup where I’d been the first engineering leader for three and a half years. Before that I co-founded a B2B startup as CTO, spent five years at Bloomberg building the machine-learning platform behind its FX benchmark pricing, and earlier still traded FX options in Singapore and Abu Dhabi after starting out as an engineer at Oracle and Lehman. That’s twenty years, about half of it writing code and half running the people who do, and I still do both.
I write about the practical consequences of AI, for the people who build software, the businesses that run on it, and the internet underneath, usually starting from something I ran into doing the job.
Outside work it’s tennis, travel, and building things I don’t strictly need, some of them for my kids and the rest to see whether they’d work.
